Common Ants

COMMON ANTS

Overview

Ants are social insects living in colonies with three castes: queens (egg-layers), workers (sterile females responsible for food and defense), and males (reproductive).

Ants can be distinguished from termites by:

  • Ants: Constricted “figure-8” body, elbowed antennae, larger forewings.
  • Termites: No waist constriction, straight antennae, equal-sized wings.
